Our Why

10685529_628631577264677_6481008379487345869_n copieRugby Pour Tous Europe developed from the passion of Rugby Pour Tous Benin and is committed to supporting them in their actions.

Rugby Pour Tous Benin, has been encouraging children off the streets and onto the rugby pitch since March 2014. The national Captain, Number 8 and representative for women’s rugby in Benin decided to act locally and ask for support from across the world. The charity was registered on August 15th 2014.

Hermann Gangnihessou, President of the charity, grew up on the streets of Benin then grew into being one of the country’s highest level tacklers. He believes that rugby can be an exceptional tool for social integration.

We hope to carry out our dream of creating a School of Rugby, with the support of the rugby players and supporters across the planet.”

Number 8 for the national team and accorded the title “Best Tackler” in the Super 16 Trophy, 2005, Herman has an eclectic team on board. Players or other, they are motivated and confident and above all committed to promoting the values that rugby is founded on:

Fraternity: a school of tolerance, a tool for emancipation and social integration.

Solidarity: generosity, sacrifice, humility and mutual understanding.

Physical discipline: personal commitment, desire to exceed oneself.

Loyalty: the moral code of the sport.

Respect: others and oneself.

Combating Violence: rugby’s role in education society.

Celebration: the show of sportsmanship is a show for everyone to celebrate!

The Rugby Pour Tous Benin team have received visits and have co-coached training sessions with members of other registered charities: Rugby sans Frontières, SOUA Rugby Club from Albertville, Bordeaux action Solidarité Bénin and Les Ailes du savoir Paris.

We already have local support from companies such as the Tincy baker’s shop (Cotonou, Benin) and the Direction of the Cocotiers school allows the training to take place on their grounds as well as joining the children at the end of the training sessions to integrate educational activities to the sessions. In Europe the design agency Loup Design (France) is fully on board.

Rugby pour Tous Europe has been created to build awareness and develop the idea of Global Citizenship. Its aim is to facilitate dialogue and exchange, sending equipment, funds and skills to Benin whilst bringing ideas and skills back from them. The charity is working with Cap Coopération, a regional organization specialized in sustainable activities and networking.

In 2015 the priority for Rugby pour Tous Europe is to develop relationships with European and Beninese actors in education, social integration, business and sport.

10891710_611278368999998_5619743278210535956_n copieWe hope to gain support of individuals and organizations to work together and brainstorm opportunities for developing opportunities for Benin in the northern hemisphere and to readdress the balance between Northern-Southern hemisphere exchanges.

Rugby Pour Tous Europe will also be a tool for companies to concretize their Social Responsibility policies.

2015 Campaign

10426125_628570333937468_1273886917591053280_n copieFor our first 2015 campaign we have chosen to support Rugby Pour Tous Benin in three areas: safety for the children, Benin/Europe communications and trainer autonomy, so they can accept our donations rather than depend on them!

Rugby Pour Tous Benin has been training around one hundred young people and children since the 15th March 2014, demonstrating that the can take action, be efficient and independent. Let’s give them a boost.

Target: 5700€10407162_628628853931616_8642408309497646930_n copie copie

This is needed to support Rugby pour tous Benin in 3 ways:

  • Safety: the coaches would like a first aid kit available during the training sessions. The cost of this is 50,000 FCFA (76€). Insurance is also needed for transporting the children to their matches. Annual cost of 4400 FCFA/child therefore 440000 FCFA for 100 children (671€).
  • Communication: we need the best possible communication between Rugby pour tous Benin and Europe. For this we need a smart phone, laptop and printer for the President and the administrators. Budget: 650000 (990€). The line charges will be paid for by Rugby pour tous Benin.
  • Autonomy: The team in Benin hopes to be autonomous in the long term and not need to ask for donations. They hope to obtain a second hand bus which will enable them to:
  1. Use the Coach’s specific driving license to collect the children for rugby training. Today they use their own means – moto-taxi for the 24 most motivated children attending training but this is not a safe or cost efficient means. Their annual budget for this in 2015 is 528000 FCFA (805€).
  2. Meet other teams and organize events to promote rugby as a tool for social integration across the region.
  3. When unused by the club for training and events, the bus could be rented to other clubs. This could generate 50,000-70,000 FCFA (76-107€) monthly income to cover the fuel costs, insurance and maintenance.
  4. Promote the charity in the streets of Cotonou thanks to communication on the bus.

Budget 600,000  FCFA (3964€)
